Standard Gauge railways are generally redundant mainline services. Built to the standard 4ft 8 1/2 inch width, these are heavy duty lines that take even the largest and heaviest locomotives.
Essentially, when most people think of a railway, they think of ‘standard gauge’. For a family day out, standard gauge provides a comfortable ride in full-size passenger carriages.
Many centres even have dining cars and offer special services in the evening when you can enjoy a meal with traditional table service. It' a special feeling as you glide along with the busy world sliding past your table.
