It could be said that Wales is the home of the narrow gauge railway. It's certainly true that it's the home of the UK's best known mountain railway on Snowdon.
There are two main clusters of heritage and related centres- in the north west of Wales around Snowdon, and in the south west between Swansea and Cardigan. But in the west, you can find the Glyn Valley Tramway and the Llangollen Railway near Llangollen - and a couple of light railways around Welshpool.
The rail locations are perfectly complemented with a fantastic collection of museums, from the National Slate Museum and the Llechwedd Slate Caverns to the Narrow Gauge Railway Museum and Penrhyn Castle Industrial Railway Museum.
Adding some extra interest are the tramways at Great Orme and Glyn Valley and the Waterfront Museum in Swansea.
