The West Midlands has a good collection of museums that provide an eclectic mix of both artefacts and experiences. Birmingham hosts its own railway Museum and also the intriguingly named Thinktank Museum. Coventry has an Electric Railway Museum, while the Black Country Living Museum in Dudley will give a wider perspective of life in days gone by.
The region has more than its fair share of miniature railways, from those in tourist attractions such as Weston Park and Twycross Zoo to the Echills Wood Railway in Sutton Coldfield.
Five narrow gauge railways are dotted around the area, while mainline enthusiasts are catered for by the fantastic Battlefield Line, Severn Valley Railway, and a full handful of others.
